* Billy Corgan, former lead singer of Smashing Pumpkins and Zwan, has signed on as Chicago's first rock 'n' roll sportscaster. Starting today, Corgan will turn up as official "Cubs correspondent" for WXRT-FM (93.1), with his "Wrigleyville Report" airing at 8:05 a.m. Mondays and Fridays on Lin Brehmer's morning show. The Infinity Broadcasting adult rocker has been without a regular sports segment since the demise of "Athletes' Feats" at the end of 2000.
* Dan Bernstein has been off the air since Tuesday, when his contract expired as Terry Boers' midday talk show partner at WSCR-AM (670). While still considered highly likely, a renewal with the Score isn't Bernstein's only option.
"We're taking a very careful look at the alternatives that have been presented to Dan," said Bernstein's agent, Todd Musburger. "People whom we respect regard Dan not only as a highly talented sports talk show host, but as a highly talented broadcaster."
Bernstein, a Chicago native, joined the Score from WNTA-AM in Rockford in 1995.
* The relocation of WONX-AM (1590) from north suburban Evanston to west suburban Carol Stream has been postponed until late summer at the soonest.
Radio Business Report cites "personnel problems" at the Federal Communications Commission for the delay.
Owner Kovas Communications had petitioned the FCC last January to move the time-brokered ethnic and foreign-language station to Carol Stream in order to upgrade its signal and combine its operation with WMCW-AM (1600), WCGO-AM (1600) and WKKD-AM (1580).
* Lisa Dent will broadcast her WUSN-FM (99.5) midday show Monday through Thursday from Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, in conjunction with the Academy of Country Music Awards Show.
* Scott Wagner has signed off after five years as program director and on-air personality at WLJE-FM (105.5) in northwest Indiana. He most recently had been hosting mornings.
* Alex Quigley, who hosted overnights and middays at WKQX-FM (101.1), is out after two years as program director at KRFR-FM in Bakersfield, Calif.
* The "Wheel of Formats" at WRZA-FM (99.9) stops today on music of the '90s. A different artist or format will air each day until a permanent format rolls out next month.
